Bring a valid driver's license or state ID. If you are under 20, a certified birth certificate is required. Those aged 16 or 17 also need written parental consent and a certified birth certificate. You must provide proof of your Social Security number using a card, W-2, or pay stub. If you were married before, know the date of your divorce or the death of your former spouse. The fee is $60. Gates County accepts cash and checks. The license is valid for 60 days and is only valid in North Carolina. After the ceremony, the officiant must return the signed license to the Gates County Register of Deeds within 10 days. No blood test. No waiting period.
Certified copies cost $10 each. Non-certified copies are $0.25. Mail requests should go to P.O. Box 471, Gatesville, NC 27938. Personal checks are not accepted for mail orders. Send a money order instead. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope.
