Mecklenburg County Marriage License Process

Go to the Register of Deeds office at 720 East Fourth St., Room 103, Charlotte, NC 28202. Both people must appear in person. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Bring a valid photo ID and your Social Security number.

Under North Carolina General Statute 51-6, a marriage license must be obtained before any ceremony. There is no waiting period. The license is valid right away and stays good for 60 days.
